I have to add a little addendum to my last post. I didn't finish all the 'goods' that go with the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Probably the most important GOOD; the relationship we have with Alex's birth family, especially his birth dad and his family.
We met Alex's dad 2 years ago and we were lucky enough to keep in touch and then spend their vacation with them just this past spring. Alex's dad - Ernie - has totally changed his life around (another great good!) and is married to a very kind woman who accepts Alex, and another child of Ernie's from a previous relationship. From this family he has 2 brothers and 2 sisters who Alex adores. He idolizes his big brother Collin, and I always use Collin as an example! ("I HATE SCHOOL!" "Well, Collin is going to school, too and he's working really hard to like it!") Now that we know Ernie (and family) it's fun to watch Alex and see some of Ernie's mannerisms in him, or just look at him and think, "WOW! You look just like your dad!" We are very lucky to be able to say they are now a part of our family! We love them very much and are so grateful for their support.
We also keep in touch with his sister on his mom's side. Alexis is 6 years older than Alex and she loves him so dearly. It kind of breaks my heart when we do see her just because we don't see her often enough. She's still living a tough life, unfortunately, but Alex brings her joy and happiness.
His Aunt Grandma and I talk to each other at least once a month. She did her best while she had him, and has a soft spot in her heart for him and we will always be grateful for her.
So, see. There really is a lot more GOOD than bad or ugly!!
