Poor Dexter!

A few weeks ago I suggested to my son and daughter-in-law to bring their dog, Dex, to my house on days they don't get home until a little later in the evenings just so the poor, little pooch doesn't get lonely. I knew the kids would love to play with him, and I could enjoy a dog, but not have to be it's owner ;-). He's been here twice, and he's been a ton of fun! But I don't think they will EVER bring him again...and I can't blame them!

My cat is the devil.

He's usually very nice and really enjoys hanging out with us wherever we are. And that's what he was doing the other day. He was asleep in the rocking chair while I sat on the footstool to read a book to the kids. Dex wanted to be by me, so he jumped into the chair, scaring the cat half to death- which led to the brawl of the century. First they scuffled - OK Moose beat the crap out of Dex on the chair. Then they jumped down to the ground by us, where I grabbed Moose long enough for Dex to cower over by the piano. When I let go of Moose - mostly out of self preservation- he chased Dex down over there. At this point Mike came out of the office to see what the heck was going on. Noticing the tufts of hair flying around the room, and the pee marks all over the living room carpet, he realized this was not a fun moment in the household, and grabbed Moose, again giving Dex a chance to try to hide. Around the corner he went, screaming the whole way and - yup, again - Moose chased him around the corner!! When I finally got there I kicked Moose down the hall - go ahead and call PETA on me - and tried to hold Dex to calm him down.

I ended up bathing him since he had peed all over himself and had gashes all over his chest and stomach. I put neosporin on him then just held him in a blanket the rest of the day. He shook all day long!

That was last Thursday. Dex hasn't eaten since then, but had seemed to be acting a little better everyday. That is until yesterday when Kierra saw him licking his hip-hind end region and noticed 3 huge gaping holes in his skin! She took him to the vet today. They had to give him antibiotics and put a "cone of shame" on him but they did say he would survive.

I don't know who this is worse for. Me because my cat beat up their dog, or them... because my cat beat up their dog. I just want you to know that I feel terrible! I saw Dex after they went to the vets and every time I talked the poor dog freaked out! So obviously he's not going to forgive me anytime soon. I felt like I should be the one wearing the cone!

Sorry Dex.
